19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since that period of that year.
The win also means Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led some to question if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.
However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an improved serve.
The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the last five games to take the lead.
The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a final set.
He rescued four initial chances in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
