The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible with a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
